Absolutely! As an employee of Hospice of Texarkana, I can provide hospice services under the oversight of a patient’s physician. I usually visit patients in their homes to evaluate and treat new or worsening problems or to determine how a patient is responding to a treatment. As a nurse practitioner licensed in Texas and Arkansas, I can prescribe medications that are within my scope of practice, training, and prescriptive authority. These include, but are not limited to, medications for nausea, constipation, and infection. Home visits can be especially beneficial for patients who are no longer able to visit their physician at the doctor’s office because of mobility problems.
